Some people thought this article was making a false assumption that USA did not give any concessions to Russia, they were wrong. Angela Merkel has accepted that NATO was just toying with Russia and they never actually considered any compromise. The Minsk agreements were just a ploy to buy time to prepare Ukraine for an inevitable conflict against Russia they themselves where fostering.

Hahahaha, do you imagine that this war has made Russia look strong? It make Putin looks like an ignorant fool who listened to the lies of the yes-men he has spent decades surrounding himself with. Is Russia perceived as strong when it's economy is beset with crushing sanctions? What a joke.

>The rational choice for USA is obvious: simply give some concessions to Russia, as any rational agent would do with any country with teeth.

If you think that Russia will simply accept "some concenssions", then you are wrong. They will accept nothing short of Ukraine being a puppet state.

And what exactly are you recommending here? Russia gets to threaten nuclear war evevery time they want to conquer another country and we're supposed to back down? Where does it stop?

Russia "had no choice" to the extent that they support an irredentist program of expansionism (a """sphere of influence"""). They don't "need" this. They want this. But by your logic, anything short of letting Putin do whatever he pleases with neighboring countries is the US "forcing" Putin to bust out the nukes.

You are living in a bubble of Western media.

Russia has just started the reshuffling of the world order, challenged the petrodollar, and has shown the world why the dollar cannot be the world reserve currency.

You have no idea what is happening but you are not going to see it in MSNBC.

The truth is very simple here. Russia has imperialistic ambitions but now power to actually act on them. They can attack Ukraine which is weaker and threaten with nukes but that's all. Putin called that the west is bluffing and lost his bet and showed that Russia is actually 50% weaker than the US thought it is.

That's an opinion.

That's another opinion.

The truth can be different (and the evidence shows it likely is).

It actually all started with MA370. The evidence was very clear from the beginning – Russians supplied rebels who shot it down by mistake. The denial of certain people that Russia was involved was incredible. They still don't believe despite a recent court judgment about this. It is not the western media who is spreading propaganda about this, it's the Russian one. You could say that they are more successful doing this and that's all that matters. But no, the reality is biting their ass, Russians are dying in the war without meaningful gains.

Evidence isn't proof. And the West most definitely does **a ton** of propaganda.

If you want to believe Western propaganda go ahead, they are not facts.

Sure but what exactly is the counter evidence in this case?

I don't need to believe western propaganda. I was born in the Soviet Union to experience its control of information with my own skin. What is your experience?

The evidence is that at least 50 thousand Russians have died in Ukraine (probably the same amount of Ukrainians) with incredible destruction with very little gains.

Don't you think that sometimes people can be fooling themselves?

That your opinion.
